Grant Applications Are Now Live!

Applications for two of the Foundation’s grants programs are now live. DC-based legal aid organizations can apply for general support as well as foreclosure prevention and community redevelopment legal assistance. Applications are due by 5:00 pm on Friday, April 8. Awards will be announced mid-June 2016, with the grant term starting July 1.

We have awarded general support grants since our founding in 1978, distributing over $25 million to provide free civil legal aid to low-income DC residents. These grants are funded through your contributions and the revenue from the interest on certain bank accounts through the District’s Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program, administered by DCBF.

We will award $950,000 for foreclosure prevention and community redevelopment legal assistance projects because of funding received from mortgage-related litigation between the U.S. Department of Justice and Citigroup. For the first time ever, organizations can apply for multi-year grants up to three years.
