Since 2007, the DC Bar Foundation has awarded nearly $3 million to more than 200 legal aid attorneys, who provide free legal services to low-income DC residents, through its loan repayment assistance program (LRAP). The Foundation’s LRAP enables DC legal aid organizations to recruit and retain qualified staff attorneys who would otherwise be unable to continue their critical work because of six-figure educational debt.
The 2017 LRAP application is set to be released by the end of the month and due early November through our online application system. Those interested in applying should read the 2017 guidelines and instructions for using the online system before beginning an application.
Applicants must be employed with or seeking employment with an eligible employer listed on this document. If the employer is not listed, the organization can apply to be added. See the Eligible Employers section of our website for more information.
The DC Bar Foundation will notify LRAP applicants in mid-December 2016 about their awards, which cover January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. Each participant must meet with Foundation staff to sign award documents and review program requirements in January 2017.
