DC Bar Foundation Names Adds Ten New Members to its Young Lawyers Network Leadership Council

[District of Columbia, December 9, 2024] – The DC Bar Foundation has selected ten new members for two-year terms on its Young Lawyers Network Leadership Council. Members serve as ambassadors to promote the Foundation's mission to transform the District's civil legal aid network and increase access to justice for all.

 

Tiara Brown is an associate at Hogan Lovells who has committed herself to pro bono practice by helping individuals in DC secure protective orders, serving as co-Guardian ad

litem for two minor children in the face of a contentious co-parenting relationship, and assisting a family in avoiding eviction. As someone whose family has lived in DC for generations, she understands why resources like those distributed by the Foundation are so impactful and essential.

 

Daraja Carroll is a staff attorney at Neighborhood Legal Services Program where her work focuses on consumer rights and public benefits. Through her career as an attorney, she hopes to combat inequities and challenge laws and systems that harm those who need the most protection, particularly those trying to reach economic stability.

 

Miranda Dore is a litigation counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, where, as a first-year law student in 2016, she joined the firm’s Pro Bono Scholars program, which introduced her to Foundation grantee partner DC Children’s Law Center. She strives to keep finding ways to give back through her pro bono practice and finds it important to join the YLN LC to find more ways to positively impact the DC community.

 

Destiny Fullwood-Singh is the founding attorney at Solid Ground Law, where she provides full-service criminal defense and family law services by focusing on the client as a whole person. She is is committed to the fight for social justice and equitable treatment for all. As a former public defender, she fought for the inherent dignity of her clients and continues to do today.

 

Miranda Hallett is an associate at Arnold & Porter, where she is actively growing her pro bono practice by defending clients charged with and convicted of criminal offenses. Through her membership on the YLN LC, she wants to help bring the ideas of junior associates and lawyers to the forefront, while focusing on bringing equity to DC’s civil justice system.

 

Soraya Mohamed is an associate at Davis Wright Tremaine who has had the privilege of working in both public service and private practice on a variety of complex legal matters, including significant pro bono matters. Through this work, she has developed a deep appreciation for the importance of access to justice and the critical role that legal aid organizations play in DC's community.

 

Lauren Stocks-Smith is an equity and Title IX investigator at American University, who has experience working with two DC Bar Foundation grantee partners: Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project and Bread for the City. She is eager to join the YLN LC to give back to underserved District residents and the city’s legal services community.

 

Ariana Taylor is a litigation associate at Skadden, who spent nine months at Foundation grantee partner Legal Aid DC focusing exclusively on eviction and non-payment of rent defense cases. Her five-year tenure at Skadden has allowed her to build a robust pro bono practice in housing and immigration law.

 

Tai Williams is an associate at Crowell & Moring, where she maintains a busy pro bono practice and is also an active member of her firm’s Immigration Law Subcommittee. She hopes to facilitate continued dialogue and connectivity between the DC Bar Foundation and DC community as we identify and address access to justice needs.

 

Zenia Wilson Laws is special counsel at the Office of the Attorney General of the District of Columbia, where she regularly collaborates with community members and stakeholders to build solutions for nuisance activity. She has a demonstrated history of legal services work, having previously worked as a staff attorney at Foundation grantee partner Legal Aid DC and a community lawyer at Maryland Legal Aid.
