On May 16th, the DC Bar Foundation was honored to be inducted into the Hall of Fame of one of our long-time grantees, Ayuda, at their 44th Anniversary Celebration. We are proud to have partnered with Ayuda continuously since 1978.
For the last 10 years, Foundation funding has made possible the Shared Legal Interpreter Bank, a unique and essential project that, through our investment and partnership with Ayuda, has become a national model. This project helps close the gap in access to justice by providing interpretation and translation services to low-income, non-English speaking DC residents throughout the attorney-client relationship. The Foundation has not only supported the Interpreter Bank through grants, but we have also funded consultants to improve and streamline the Interpreter Bank’s efforts to ensure their model is the most effective for serving the immigrant community. Over the 10 years of this project so far, the Foundation’s funding and the Interpreter Bank’s leadership have resulted in tremendous growth for this vital service. The DC Bar Foundation is proud to be part of such a project, and we look forward to what we can achieve in the next 10 years.
Sincerely, Kirra L. Jarratt, Executive Director
