Last week, the DC Bar Foundation awarded more than $380,000 to 68 legal aid attorneys through its loan repayment assistance programs (LRAP). These attorneys work for DC legal aid organizations and provide free civil legal assistance to low-income District residents.
“Our loan repayment assistance programs help ensure that talented and passionate lawyers are not deterred from pursuing a career in public interest law due to exorbitant law school debt. Because of these programs, the District has some of the top lawyers in the country representing our community’s most vulnerable residents,” stated Kirra L. Jarratt, Executive Director of the DC Bar Foundation.
The DC Bar Foundation has granted over $2.8 million to 190 civil legal aid attorneys since LRAP’s inception in 2007. LRAP is just one of programs through which we provide 360 degrees of support to DC’s legal aid organizations. Read more about our programs here: https://dcbarfoundation.org/our-approach/.
