Each month we highlight individuals working to make the justice system more accessible to DC residents. Meet Lucy, Amanda, Lauren, and Jinee, DCBF's summer 2021 interns!

Ana Lucia (Lucy) Verduzco

You get one extra hour of free time per day. How do you use it?

Read a good book (often, this falls at the end of my priority list, and it gets too late to read up, which I love to do!)

Who is your role model, and why?

Vivir Quintana. She is a Mexican composer who created "Canción Sin Miedo." This song recently became increasingly powerful in Latin America, representing the feminist movements of this year in Mexico. She is unapologetic, she is loud, and she is inspiring to women everywhere. She makes me feel empowered as a Latina and as a woman.

Guilty Pleasure

Being really into McDonald's. Especially late-night sweet tea and McFlurries.

What is your go-to karaoke song?

Dancing Queen, ABBA

Amanda Kronenberger

Daily Habit

Read something, not on the internet, preferably fiction to relax at the end of the day.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation, I'd love to not deal with any more traffic.

Who is your role model, and why?

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, for her ability to use her words to promote equality and stem discrimination.

One Item from your Bucket List

Hike through Glacier National Park.

Jinee Chong

Daily Habit

I try to go on a walk every day with my dog, Mochi!

One Item from your Bucket List

I hope to live in Korea one day, whether it's short-term or long-term.

Guilty Pleasure

My guilty pleasure is listening to true crime podcasts.

Legal aid is important to me because...

I think it's so important for everyone to be able to get the representation they deserve. As a child of an immigrant, I know how difficult it can be to navigate the legal system, especially when English is not your first language.

Lauren Leong

If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be?

Kendrick Lamar

What is the best concert you have ever attended?

Fall Out Boy because it satisfied my 14-year-old angst.

What is your favorite museum in DC?

The Newseum. I was so sad when it closed.

Legal aid is important to me because...

it is crucial in creating a more equitable society.
