The DC Bar Foundation is proud to fund a wide range of legal services organizations that support some of our city's most vulnerable residents. One of those organizations is Amara Legal Center. Amara provides free trauma-informed legal representation, access to support services, and advocacy for a more equitable legal system for individuals impacted by sex trafficking or involved in sex work in the DC-metro area. They envision a society where their clients are free from stigma, violence, oppression, exploitation, and criminalization.
Amara's wide range of services, including civil protection orders, child custody, criminal defense, expungement, and victim-witness advocacy, helps keep their clients safe from harm.
Former Executive Director Llamilet Gutierrez recently shared with us why their partnership with the Foundation is so important. In addition to funding, we provide capacity building and training – like our racial equity training – to help Amara and other grantees continue improving and expanding their legal services. You can watch Llamilet's remarks here.
