Thanks to DCBF's donors who make a difference for District residents

There are many ways law firms, corporations, and individuals can partner with the DC Bar Foundation's transformative work to streamline District residents' access to civil legal assistance. Below are three:

  • Call to Action. Some 86 law firms and companies have donated $601,409 to the Foundation's signature Call to Action campaign. This year, 27 corporate donors have increased their gift size or given for the first time. Thank you! Help us reach our $610,000 stretch goal – $50K more than we raised last year – with an online donation or by sending a check to DC Bar Foundation, 200 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20001 before June 30.

  • DC Walk for Justice 5K. The Foundation will launch its inaugural DC Walk for Justice 5K on October 24 – during Pro Bono Week. We have three goals for the Walk:

    • to increase community awareness of the significant civil legal aid needs in the District of Columbia,

    • to expand the network of lawyers, judges, and community members committed to supporting legal aid and

    • to raise at least $250,000 for the Foundation's transformative work.

The Walk begins and ends at Nats Park, followed by a finish line party with food, drinks, and music at Centerfield Plaza. It is patterned after the London Legal Walk, which raises more than $1 million annually for civil legal aid needs in London. Other communities in the UK, Australia, and the United States host annual legal walks.

You can sponsor the DC Walk for Justice 5K at this link. Registration for walkers will open on June 27.

  • Avenues to Justice. The Foundation's Young Lawyers Network Leadership Council will host Avenues to Justice on June 26, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Arnold & Porter. Former US Attorney General Eric Holder will offer video remarks, and a panel of DC Bar Foundation grantees will address how legal services organizations are working to ensure that every resident has the means to safeguard their legacy, maintain stable housing, and provide for their loved ones.

The Leadership Council has set a fundraising goal of $72,000 and has already received commitments of nearly $59K, plus several donors who will match up to $10,000 raised during the week of the event. Individual and corporate sponsors can support Avenues for Justice using this link.
