[District of Columbia, October 21, 2015] — On Saturday, October 17, the DC Bar Foundation Young Lawyers Network hosted its third annual Go Formal for Justice gala, which raised nearly $60,000 for the District’s civil legal aid providers.
More than 250 guests attended the event, which was generously hosted by Mayer Brown LLP, and included entertainment from NYX Live, an open bar with local craft beer, wine, and liquor, spirits tastings by Virginia Distillery Company and Craft Wine & Spirits, a tarot card reader, and a silent auction. Auction items included a private Potomac River cruise, a Charlottesville wine tasting weekend, and a two-night staycation at the W Washington DC Hotel. Reduced-price public interest tickets were available for the event, and a number of tickets were donated for attorneys receiving loan repayment assistance from the Foundation.
Young Lawyers Network Leadership Council members, Alison Lima Andersen of Arent Fox LLP and Erin Kelly, served as this year’s co-chairs. “We were thrilled to have such an enthusiastic group of young lawyers in attendance, who enjoyed both dancing and bidding on our terrific auction items to raise additional funds for the DC Bar Foundation,” said Kelly. DCBF Board member Janet Studley of Holland & Knight LLP added, “At a time when legal services needs remain so great, it is truly gratifying to see the enthusiasm and energy the Young Lawyers Network Leadership Council has generated among the younger members of our legal community.”
“Go Formal for Justice” precedes the October 26 kick-off of “Go Casual for Justice,” a city-wide denim day fundraiser where employees at participating workplaces make a donation to the Foundation in order to dress down at work. More than 30 workplaces have signed up to participate so far. Please visit http://gocasual.swellgives.com for more information.
